The Marine Fabricators Association (MFA) sponsors two awards programs for its members to recognize innovation and excellence. Click on panels below for complete information and details on how to enter. Entry deadline is December 1, 2009. We encourage you to enter both.

Earn Recognition for Your Best Projects
The Marine Fabricators Association (MFA) is proud to sponsor the 2010 MFA Fabrication Excellence Awards program. This competition is designed to recognize excellence in marine fabrication. Winning entries will be announced and showcased during the Awards Banquet at the 2010 MFA National Convention, January 11-13, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Waterfront in Jacksonville, FL.

Awards

  • One Award of Excellence and two for Outstanding Achievement will be awarded in each category.
  • One Award of Distinction will be selected from all Award of Excellence winners.
  • Number of awards given, in all categories, is at the discretion of the head judge and determined by the score given to each entry.
  • All winning entries will become property of MFA/IFAI.

Winner Benefits

  • All winning entries will be featured in the Marine Fabricator magazine.
  • All award winners receive a certificate, plaque and a press release. You also have the option to purchase additional plaques.
  • Award winners who are members of MFA/IFAI will be entered in IFAI’s 2010 International Achievement Awards (additional photos may be requested for participation).

Entry Requirements

  • Entries must be projects completed in 2008 or 2009.
  • Each entry may not be entered for two consecutive years.
  • No company names or logos are allowed on the front of the entry.

Judging

  • A panel of industry experts who are Master Fabric Craftsman (MFC) certified will conduct judging.
  • The following criteria will be used in judging entries: 25% design, 25% craftsmanship, 25% originality and 25% difficulty.

Requirements for Entry

  • Entry Fee: Unlimited free entries for MFA/IFAI members; non-member fee is $25/per entry.
  • Entry Deadline: December 1, 2009
  • Entry Form: Complete one on-line entry form for each entry. To complete your entry on-line go to www.marinecanvas.com/awards.html.
  • Describe Your Project:
    - What is the project all about?
    - What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?
    - What is unique or complex about this project?
    - What were the results of this project? How did it meat the client needs?
    - Who were the designer, fabricator, project manager and installer?
  • Photos/Digital Prints:
    - 2 - 4 high resolution photo/image angles of the project (overall and varying angles)
    - Upload photos when submitting on-line
  • Displaying Entries: MFA will mount all entries on boards and bring them for display at the convention.

Today’s imagination, tomorrow’s inspiration…

Imagination and inspiration are the driving forces behind new marine fabrication design. It starts with a great idea, but unless it is transformed into action, it’s not design.
The drive for improvement; the willingness to challenge the normal; the passion and belief in what you are doing – these are the characteristics of great new design.

Criteria for Entry

All entries should address and meet the criteria specified below:
• Design distinctive from other products currently manufactured.
• Benefit to the marine fabrication industry or consumer.
• Practicality and cost-effectiveness.
• Company must be a member of the Marine Fabricators Association.

How to Enter

Prepare one original and two copies per entry that include:
• Completed the Award Entry form below.
• Provide photos, drawings or other pertinent product information.
• Any other supporting materials that clearly describe characteristics of the product.
